Sadhana refers to a ritual or discipline done in order to attain spiritual growth, self-realisation and liberation. If you’re a yoga practitioner, you may recognise the word from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali which speaks about the practice of yoga and the steps that one can take to achieve Samadhi, or union with the divine.

While deeply rooted in spiritual and religious traditions, Sadhana extends beyond, serving as a daily ritual or routine that can help keep you balanced and resilient and grounded. Much like a compass, it can guide you to stay connected to your values, and live a life imbued with intention and purpose.

This course is designed to help you gain an understanding of what your deepest intentions are, to create a routine (Sadhana) that aligns with these values, and support you to sustain this practice through the ebbs and flow of life.

This course is for you if you are:

  • Interested in creating routines/rituals
  • Seeking to align your actions with your intention
  • Interested in diving into yogic philosophy and applying it to your life
  • Looking for more harmony and balance

Course outline

INTRODUCTION

Hello and welcome! Here Laia shares an overview of the course, who it’s designed for, as well as a few tips to help you get set up. Together, you’ll craft a personalised Sadhana practice aimed at fostering spiritual growth and wellbeing. The agenda and necessary materials are also reviewed, setting the stage for what's to come.

Welcome to a centering meditation designed to ground you and help you connect with the moment. You can use this short meditation any time you feel disconnected from yourself and need to come back to centre. You could also start each session of this course with this short meditation.

Whether you're an avid journal keeper or have never considered it, Laia shares a few tips and suggestions that can help you journal or keep notes throughout this course and beyond.

MODULE 1: Daily practice - Sādhanā (सा धना )

Here we discuss and demystify Sadhana – a disciplined and dedicated practice or learning path that supports spiritual growth.

In this session we explore the four main paths of yoga (Karma, Bhakti, Raja, and Jnana) and consider how we might apply them off the mat.

Join Laia for the first journaling exercise of the course, where you’ll reflect on your initial thoughts on Sadhana, and how the four paths of yoga relate to your life.

MODULE 2: Intention - Sankalpa (संकल्प)

A short meditation session designed to help you connect deeply with your values and desires.

Let's dive into the concept of Sankalpa, or the setting of intentions, and look at how this can help you be more intentional in your Sadhana practice, and in your life.

A guided journaling session where you’ll explore your values and understand how they align with your intentions.

MODULE 3: Developing a Sustainable Practice

In this session we explore the essential components necessary for establishing a sustainable Sadhana practice.

Further exploration of the critical aspects of a Sadhana practice that is robust and sustainable and aligns with how you want to live your life.

A discussion on the importance of the balance between effort and ease within your practice, and exploring a little more about the yogic concepts of Sukha and Sthira – effort and ease.

Another journaling opportunity for you to reflect on how to integrate the concepts of Sthira and Sukha, consider what you truly want to create, and set your Sankalpa.

MODULE 4: Practice - Abhyāsa (अभ्या स)

A breathwork practice to help you feel energised and empowered any time you need.

This is a practice for those times when you want to connect to your strength, power, and energy. Created with accessibility in mind, this could be used as your Sadhana when your intention is to energise and uplift, connecting you to a sense of brightness and joy.

A breathwork technique that can help you to balance your energy and feel more centred and clear.

When you're in need of more harmony, stability, and balance, this practice could be a great choice. 30 minutes of movement and breathwork to help you focus and find your centre again.

This pranayama technique is especially designed to help you connect to your lunar energy, and promotes soothing relaxation.

If you're choosing to set a Sankalpa for your spiritual practice related to ease, letting go, and finding more calm, give this practice a try! With props and as much support as you'd like, we'll spend some time decompressing on the mat.
